The Royal Chapel of Dreux is not just an impressive monument – it's a living piece of French history. Built in the 19th century on the ruins of an old medieval church, it became the official mausoleum of the Orléans after the French Revolution, when many royal tombs were desecrated.
The connection with Joinville:
For us Brazilians, especially those from Santa Catarina, there is a special link with this place! The Royal Chapel holds the mortal remains of the Princes of Joinville – François d'Orléans and his wife Francisca de Bragança, daughter of Dom Pedro I of Brazil. It's exciting to realize how the history of our Joinville, in Santa Catarina, is eternally linked to this place in France, since the Brazilian city was named in honor of the prince buried here.
