Bristol TN/VA is a truly unique city in the sense that it straddles two states, Tennessee and Virginia, and remarkably, shares a common downtown. This split identity means that a single main street – State Street – serves as the boundary, with one side belonging to Virginia and the other to Tennessee. As one walks along this iconic street, they will notice markers embedded in the pavement that delineate the state boundary, and it's entirely possible to stand with one foot in each state. This shared downtown, rather than dividing the city, has become a source of unity and pride for residents, who refer to Bristol as "A Good Place to Live" regardless of which side of the line they hail from.
