International Observe the Moon Night 2023: Space Physics Spectacular!
Join us on Saturday, October 21, from 7:30 to 8:15 PM for an unforgettable event: International Observe the Moon Night 2023: Space Physics Spectacular!
The event has both a Live Stream (7:30-8:15pm CST) as well as an in-person (6-9 PM CST) component. The Virtual Live Stream will bring you viewing of the Moon through a telescope. We will be showing off a REAL sample of the Moon from the NASA Apollo mission! We will also take a tour of the Space Physics Spectacular to show our 3 Moon-Space-Physics themes: IlluMOONate the Surface, Your Body in Space, and Rhythms & Rotations.
This exciting in-person occasion will take place at the Simpson Drill Field on the Texas A&M University main campus. Hosted by the Physics Lab Center, we'll embark on a celestial journey to the Moon and back, featuring hands-on space physics demonstrations and live Moon observation through powerful telescopes.
Numerous telescopes will provide you with an up-close optical view of the Moon's surface, complete with expert astronomers and physicists ready to offer explanations and context. In addition, we'll have marshmallow astronauts that might just brave the vacuum of space! Join us in predicting how your body would fare under conditions beyond Earth. Explore the first quarter lunar phase and gain insight into what exactly a lunar phase entails. Rest assured, we understand that the Moon is a celestial enigma, and we aim to unravel its mysteries, shedding light on the peculiar rhythms and rotations that define the Earth-Moon system. Don't miss this chance to expand your cosmic horizons!
