Awa Khiwe & Ghanaian Stallion - Zizobuya (Visual Performance)
Check out our newest release: "Zizobuya" by Zimbabwean rap queen Awa Khiwe from Bulawayo, produced by Ghanaian Stallion. Awa Khiwe, known for her powerful advocacy for women's empowerment, hails from the township of Makokoba and is making waves with her commanding presence and sharp Ndebele wordplay.
"Zizobuya," is about female empowerment and the first single from her debut album. It refers to a marriage culture where families pay cows to the family of the bride. That sometimes makes a husband think that because his family has paid many cows for the bride, she has to do whatever the husband wants. If a husband treats you bad: "bring the cows back!"
The song features a collaboration with Zimbabwe's renowned Mokoomba, providing soulful backing vocals and guitar, and the dynamic horns of Ghana's Kwashibu Area Band. Produced by Ghanaian Stallion, a Ghanaian-German music producer and DJ celebrated for his work with global artists like Black Sherif, Burna Boy, Megaloh, and Peter Fox and many more.
This visual performance features footage of Awa Khiwe's at the Stadtteilkulturtage in Laim 2024. The performance is enhanced with drawings by the artist Mayya Sultan and projections by Michael Gene Aichner (Genelabo).
