A composite bar is usually made of two or more materials with different Young's moduli (E), cross-sectional areas, and other mechanical properties. When a composite bar is subjected to an external load, the stresses in each material of the bar can be analyzed based on the properties of the individual materials and their arrangement within the structure. The key concept here is compatibility: both materials undergo the same deformation (strain) since they are joined together, but they experience different stresses depending on their individual properties. This tutorial explains another example to find the stresses in a composite bar.
