Discontinuity
Dis - continuous
Not – continuous
We are not giving a formal definition right now.
A location in the graph where there is a “break” in the line or curve.
If you had a toy car and the line represented a road could your toy car get from here to there without off roading?
If yes, then the graph is continuous.
If no, then the graph is not continuous.
The place where it is not continuous is the place of discontinuity.

Discontinuity

Nonremovable discontinuity vs. removable discontinuity

Nonremovable discontinuity is when there is no way for your car to get from one side of the road to the other.

Removable discontinuity is like a hole in the road.
If you had a couple of shovels of gravel, then you could fill in the pothole thus removing the discontinuity.
You could then continue driving.
