BTSYM / TAIym Joint Webinar - Tunnelling in Himalayas above 5000m altitude

Tunnelling in the Himalayas has always been a monumental challenge due to huge variation in geology and being a highly sensitive earthquake region. Recently, the region has seen an in-crease in new tunnels to improved connectivity between the isolated mountainous regions and the Indian mainland -- especially in poor whether condition as some of these regions are at 5000 - 5700m above mean sea levels, and can only be accessed for 7 month in a year.
The constraints of high altitude, the Himalayan geology, tectonic sensitivity, restricted accessibility and limited availability of resources, make working on these tunnels a unique challenge whilst presenting opportunities to test human skills.
In this presentation, the speakers will discuss the said challenges and associate solutions through both pre- and during-construction activities for the tunnels in Zanskar Valley (Himachal Pradesh).
