It served as a shield protecting the magician from the wrath of demons, and simultaneously as a cage that imprisoned the spirits summoned by the name of King Solomon. Legend has it that it was with such circles that Solomon could control the 72 spirits of Goetia, compelling them to build temples and reveal the secrets of the universe.
