The 2022 Queensland modern speedway sidecar titles also featured a classic title which was the first time in 30 years. Mick Doohan Raceway was the venue down in Brisbane put on by Darcy Ward Speedway Promotions.
A stacked field of racers with interstate and international travellers the competition was thick and fast.
Some hard luck stories of the meeting were Rob Patterson aboard the Luke Mythem efi Suzuki bike, which snapped a spark plug inside the cylinder head. Ruling the team out very early on. Also New South Wales team of Paul Hemsworth and Adam Botham had a horrific crash on the back straight. Resulting in Adam suffering multiple broken bones and needing to be taken to hospital.
The racing during the night was extremely fast and some riders getting caught out with ever changing track conditions. The b final in moderns saw Brodie Cohen and Josh Murray just get the victory over Cruise McVie on his newly built mitch Honda.
The a final saw Tyler Moon and Adam Lovell storm away for an unchallenged victory over second placed Darrin Treloar and Blake Cox. Third place going to youngsters Bayley Ogilvie and Denny Cox, with Brodie Cohen and Josh Murry going upside during the race to Dnf.
Classics were hotly contested, and one crowd favourite pairing was Neil Turner and April Cottrell aboard the only 500cc two stroke bike. This machine sounded amazing and had mixed results but was by far the most talked about bike. Hometown heroes of Wayne Ware and Geoff Timms finally had the twin engine triumph back out cutting laps again. Keith Hoare was out as usual on his classic which is currently up for sale, seemingly with handling issues sorted he was very fast. John Bennett made the trek down from north Queensland and had Natural on the back and the boys were going around fantastic.
Overall, the victory went to Wayne Ware and Geoff Timms, second place to Keith Hoare and Kiayana Fullerton and third place went to John Bennett and Natural Stone.
