In romantic love, there are precise stages and phases. When it is said that love lasts 3 years, it does not necessarily mean that the relationship ends.
This first stage of falling in love prepares for a second, more delicate stage, that is, a transformation of love into a more serene, calmer feeling, where one can actually think: "I don't feel the same."
On average, according to what I observe, this happens after 3 years, and then either the relationship continues or it ends. However, the relationship may continue to deteriorate, because making the decision to break up, or at least accepting it, may take some time.
