Through tales passed down generations, these figures symbolize the virtues, fears, and dreams of a people bound by common ancestry and land.
These characters and heroes are not confined to the pages of any single fairy tale or the imagination of one author; they are the shared legacy of folklore, appearing across a multitude of narratives and legends.
In this video we categorize these legendary figures into three distinct realms that capture the essence of Romanian and Moldovan folklore: Human Heroes, such as Făt-Frumos and Ileana Cosânzeana, who embody the ideals of bravery and purity; Mythical Beings like Zânele Muma Pădurii, who weave the magic and mystery of ancient realms; Helpers such as Strâmbă Lemne or Ochilă, who are always side by side with the main hero, and Enchanting Fauna, including characters like Balaur and Pasărea Măiastră, animals with magical powers, that play an important role in the outcome of these tales.
