Part 1 of 3. In an attempt to maximize the use of the parts bin and minimize overlap between bikes, I’m converting my Surly 1x1 into a geared drop bar gravel bike. The main job here is to reconfigure a bunch of braze-ons. After stripping down the frame, I do some frame modifications to give the frame a cleaner look and make it more suitable to a geared drivetrain.
