How to make an edge-gilding with Schmedt. The World of Bookbinding.
With the appropriate tools and materials and some crafting experience it is easy to realize an edge-gilding with thermal gold foil. The most important is the preparation of the book edge. The better the surface of the edge the better is the gilding. To become a real smooth surface of the edge you need emery paper (grain 200/600/1200/2000) until it looks polished. For the preparation you need boards, a gilding press, gold foil and our heatet edge-gilding roll with a thermostsat. Additional tools are recommended, like an infrared thermometer to measure the temparature on the sillicone roller, an antiskid layer on your workplace, a clean environment and a steady hand.
