#1 Iowa was 16-0 on a 36 dual meet win streak and defending 8 Time Consecutive Team Champion under Head Coach Dan Gable (172-6-2 in 1st 10 seasons at the time)
#2 Iowa State was 18-1 under 1st year head coach Jim Gibbons
