Story:We don't know how Nico can survived the End of chapter 2 but we just know that The O5 council give him a final test is destroy all zombies in the tower , the zone thats cause a lot of innocents deaths in there.The test was difficulty, without lieutenant , soldiers or any people to go with him so he went alone and face the high risk of death and get the artifacts before the Chaos Insurgency can hand over it.
