Old Tagalog words possibly date back to the tenth century, as evidenced by the Laguna Copperplate Inscription, primarily inscribed in Old Malay. The earliest complete book in Tagalog is the Doctrina Christiana (Christian Doctrine), published in 1593. This work was penned in Spanish with two versions in Tagalog: one using the ancient Baybayin script and the other employing an early Spanish approximation of Latin orthography for the language.
