There has been a dramatic change in the VoIP industry regarding fraud. VoIP providers seem to be taking fraud more seriously and this is made more clear to the team and I by the amount of responses we receive whenever we file abuse reports. After confirming that the numbers are being used for scams, we send emails to the providers that are hosting these numbers. Our emails are filled with evidence and after an investigation by the providers, the numbers are terminated for fraud. The following calls are great examples of how we no longer have to prank call scammers until they ditch their numbers, which is a breath of fresh air as we come across large amounts of fraud everyday.
The following calls were made yesterday with the providers terminating the numbers on the same day as they reported. I can only assume that the recent changes within the FTC's regulations are playing a big role. Scammers are having a hard time keeping their numbers up for more than a day. Not only does this ruin the scammers' entire phone campaign but it also costs them a lot of money. With today being the end of the month, we've come across many desperate scammers trying to make at least one "sale", in hopes that their commission payment can at least bump their already low base salary. I can tell you with the utmost confidence that we did not let that happen. The month of October has been extremely poor & costly for the scammers that we came across.
I hope that this is the beginning of a long running series where VoIP providers continue to fight back on the scammers that abuse their services....
