How to Dye with Arbutus I Madrone I Madrona Bark
Arbutus trees (in the genus Arbutus, family Ericaceae) give an incredible range of colour, from deep tans, to brilliant rufus reds and chocolate browns; all from the inner bark. The arbutus in this video come from the west coast of North America (Pacific Northwest), but there are 11 other species through North America, Europe, the Mediterranean and Asia.
This video explores the steps you need to draw out and use the traditional naturally dye in the bark to achieve these amazing colours. Natural dyeing is an amazing way to create your own sustainable ecodyes!
