Luche Reduction
Luche reduction is the reduction of α, β-unsaturated ketone with NaBH4 in the presence of cerium chloride as a Lewis acid as catalyst in alcohol like methanol/ethanol as a solvent to produce allyl alcohol. The same reaction condition can be used for the chemoselective reduction of ketone in the presence of aldehyde.
