Magic of Poetry
Tracy Smith, an American poet and educator, held the position of the 22nd Poet Laureate of the United States from 2017 to 2019. She is the author of five poetry collections, earning the Pulitzer Prize for her 2011 work “Life on Mars.” In addition to her poetry, she also published a memoir titled “Ordinary Light” in 2015. During one of the 2023 panels at the SVWC, Tracy Smith read from her pieces of work and shared her thoughts on what poetry means to her. She believes poetry can be used as a way to understand oneself on a deeper level and help make us more resilient, curious, and courageous as well.
