According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, the iPhone 7 is likely to be forged from Apple’s custom Series 7000 aluminium alloy, which is currently found on the Apple Watch. But what does that mean?
Well, the Cupertino tech giant claims that this altered form of aluminium is 60 percent stronger than regular versions of the metal, while being one-third the density of stainless steel, resulting in a tough, light material.
The anodised outer layer also helps protect the Watch from scratches, and using this material in the next generation of iPhone makes sense to us, assuming Apple can ramp up the production of its alloy.

Update 21/05/15: Ming-Chi Kuo believes the iPhone will come in a Rose Gold option, in order to better pair up with the Rose Gold Apple Watch. He also believes that selected models may come with a sapphire glass screen, which would be nigh-on unscratchable. Sapphire glass is still a very expensive material to produce in the quantities required for it to be used on every iPhone 7, which is probably why Kuo predicts that only certain models will offer it – but would Apple want to fracture its range this way? We’re not so sure.

Update 23/06/15: Don’t like the plastic strips built into your iPhone 6’s body? The ones that allow the phone’s antenna to work properly? Well, they might be getting the chop in the iPhone 7. Apple has filed a patent describing a composite material derived from metal oxides that could replace the (rather unsightly) placcy bits. That could mean a true all-metal iPhone 7. Our issue is that the filing of this might be too close to launch day, and that maybe we’ll be seeing plastic used until the iPhone 8.
