This is a mockup/approximation of the well known (and technically challenging for Ataris!) shooter 'Alien Breed' from the Amiga platform.

This is running on an 8MHZ 1MB Atari STE. It was put together using my AGT game prototyping engine (see other videos) in a relatively short space of time, to demonstrate different kinds of scrolling with large maps & sprites. As with the other examples, it is intended to show the range of possibilities available from this engine.

This demo uses fixedpoint scrolling - fine scroll in any direction at all - within 50hz framerate. This is the most difficult kind of scrolling to do at high speed on an Atari (or Amiga) machine with huge tilemaps - more difficult than 4-way or 8-way so you won't find too many examples of it in real 50hz games.

There are approx 50 aliens on the map, colliding with walls and each other.

The 5-bitplane/32col Amiga graphics are simulated using field interlace tricks. This doesn't translate well to YT in any of my videos, and is best viewed on the STE machine itself.
