How To Collapse a Variable In Stata
How to convert variable type from continuous to discrete? This video will show you that you can break your continuous variables in to categories and re-code them as categorical, ordinal variables. You do this be deciding “cut points” in your continuous variable and then making all values within a specific cut-point-range to be assigned to a value in the new ordinal variable you use. You can use the recode command or the replace command. Once you have the new variable in categories, you can run a table in Stata for the new variable and manage the categorical variable with labels and descriptions the same way that we learned in prior videos.
