BMW M Ignite – Racing technology now in series production!
BMW's patented pre-combustion chamber ignition system, M Ignite, is making its debut in series production models. So how does this system work, and what advantages does it offer? Here are the details.
🔧 How it Works?
Each cylinder has two separate combustion chambers and two independent spark plugs. Under high load, the mixture ignited in the pre-combustion chamber simultaneously ignites the entire fuel-air mixture in the main chamber with flame jets traveling at near-sonic speeds. This results in faster, more homogeneous, and more efficient combustion.
✅ Benefits
Significant reduction in fuel consumption at high loads
Compliance with EU7 emission standards
Lower exhaust temperatures and reduced risk of knocking
Increased efficiency without sacrificing performance
📅 When and in Which Models?
July 2026: New BMW M3 and BMW M4
August 2026: BMW M2
