Pseudo Human: Tagu Jams Live Recording Session
Pseudo Human (@pseudohuman9) emerged on the Myanmar independent music scene with a distinctive blend of cold, haunting vocals and thick, rhythmic lines that set the band apart. His songs are slow-burns, like a candle flickering on its last wick in the pitch black darkness. The music starts with a bright intensity, gradually dimming to a smoldering ember by the end. As the final notes fade, listeners are left in the dark, alone with their thoughts.
The basslines and drum patterns are hypnotic, while the looping melodies of the vocals add a textured layer that reflects the complexities of life. Blending elements of electro music and synth-pop, Pseudo Human's sound navigates a wide spectrum of moods and emotions, engaging listeners on multiple levels. Some songs evoke joy, while others compel you to dance, even if only for a fleeting moment. This dynamic range resonates with those seeking an escape from a feeling of being trapped. The music carries a carefree spirit, and even if it may seem melancholic on the surface, the rhythms encourage you to move your body.
The real human behind this solo project called “Pseudo Human” is Okkar Myint Myat. His passion for music began in middle school when he started playing around with FruityLoops, a popular audio workstation back in the day. Later in high school, Okkar learned to play the guitar. His thirst for musical knowledge grew gradually. Before he set for his matriculation exams, he made a deal with his mother: he will get to choose what he studies in university, if he can pass the exams on the first attempt. He did just that and he went on to study violin at the National University of Arts and Culture. He would later switch his major to musicology.
After he graduated, he embraced his life as a music producer, working closely with musicians from the local hip hop scene, crafting beats and sometimes, composing film scores. He liked being in the background, letting his music speak for itself. But in 2022, post-coup era depression pushed Pseudo Human out of Okkar Myint Myat. A new identity stepped forward to express the feelings that he wasn’t able to express as Okkar. Layered over synthetic sounds are real human emotions that were previously locked away.
Pseudo Human made his debut with the song "Moribund" offering fans a fresh and unique sound that quickly captured attention in the local indie music scene. (Coincidentally, it was released exactly two years ago 31st July, 2022.) This was soon followed by "Yone Kyi Mel So," an original track written and performed by Oakkar, which provided a more intimate glimpse into his music and broadened his audience. By 2023, Pseudo Human had become a frequent presence at live performances. And here he is now, at Tagu Jams live recording sessions. He performed a total of four songs including his recently released single “Lay Tagon”. His friends from The Peacists - Aung Chan Min and Paing Thet Hein - also joined in to play bass and keyboard respectively.
This live session was shot and recorded more than a year ago on 13th March, 2023 at our Tagu office in Yangon. Even though this was a two-camera shoot, we decided to go with a single-roaming camera vibe for this jam, reminiscent of the earlier episodes of Tagu Jams from last year. Enjoy!

Established in 2013, Tagu Films is an independent film production house from Myanmar. For a decade, Tagu Films collaborated with various Myanmar independent musicians to produce music videos and live recording sessions. Tagu Music, established in 2023, is a new step towards producing more Myanmar music contents, such as Tagu Jams, that capture the vibrant local independent music scene.
