Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan visited Kayan Valley in 1991 for shooting parts of Khuda Gawah movie. He and the whole team was warmly welcome by the residents of Kayan Valley who are mainly Shia Ismaili loyal to Prince Karim Aga Khan.

Amitabh Bachan also received a rare 'horse' as a gift from Sayed Mansur Naderi, a spiritual and political leader in Afghanistan. This visit was endorsed by Dr. Najibullah, the former President of Afghanistan.
