Twitch Bits - Animated Blocks #8 - Minecraft
I created a resource pack that adds bits from Twitch.tv into Minecraft. Includes custom models, textures, and animated textures.

Minecraft version 1.8 or higher. Drag directly into your resourcepacks folder. If you are experiencing lag, unzip and remove the animated blocks files as those use are the most demanding.

The idea of creating bits for Minecraft goes to BaconDonut. I like to watch his twitch videos while I work on my projects. While watching one of his videos, bits were a new thing and Bacon was a beta tester for them. While watching, Bacon mentioned that it would be awesome if somebody made a mod that included bits into Minecraft. Well, I don't know how to make mods, but I do know how to make extraordinary animations.
The concept of my animation came from After Effects. The program can't do 3d objects, but you can fake it by using multiple layers that are close together. Now, every texture on those models is not a different texture. 1 texture is duplicated 4 times to fill the empty space between the textures. The idea worked better then I expected. I used Cinema 4D to recreate the bits and create the animations for those bits. This was a bit challenging because the only reference Twitch provided is from the front view. Also, it was difficult to figure out an efficient way to export the textures, but with the use of Xpresso (logic in Cinema 4D) I was able to create a simple way to do this by slicing my 3d models and exporting those slices.
Time: more then 100 hours. There was a lot of trial and error though out this entire project.
