Why Northern Mexico is Whiter than Southern Mexico
Northern Mexico is both geographically and demographically very different from that of Southern Mexico and this dates back to the Pre-Colombian era and the conquest of the region by the Spanish Empire. Due to the lower indigenous population density and higher proportion of European (including US white American) immigration, many Northern Mexican states still have a significant European-descended population, mainly in rural areas, as opposed to the urban areas of most of regions of Latin America. However due to internal migration between Northern and Southern Mexico, the gap between them is decreasing as large numbers of Southerners settle in major Northern cities such as Tijuana, Juarez, Monterrey and others.
