Origin of Brazilian River-Dwellers of the Amazon: Ribeirinhos
Brazilians and their colonial Portuguese predecessors have been expanding along the Amazon River deeper and deeper into the heart of the jungle for many centuries now, displacing and intermixing with the previous indigenous Amazonian inhabitants. The unique culture that sprung up along the river is now known as the Ribeirinhos or river-dwellers. Their culture, society and traditions are very much tied to the Amazon River as you can imagine and they remain one of the most culturally unique Brazilian populations in the modern day.
