Making 18th Century Pockets
One item of 18th Century Clothing that I find absolutely fascinating and awesome all at once are pockets!
Women's clothing didn't have pockets, and it was made in such a manner that it could change sizes as needed due to weight gain/weight loss and pregnancy. Petticoats were made with slits at the side near the waistband, and pockets were worn under the stays. They could be easily accessed through the slits in the petticoats.
Pockets could be used to carry personal items, sewing kits, money, and various other objects.
I am not good at hand embroidery, and I really don't have a desire to learn beyond the basic skill I already have. However, I do have an amazing single-needle sewing/embroidery/quilting machine, and I love using it to create beautiful designs.
Hopefully the process I follow to make 18th Century Pockets makes sense and is helpful.
