Today I discuss Microsoft Office Word 2003 details [Table – Formula…, Hide Gridlines, Table Properties…] (Part – 38) in Bengali.
Working with tables
Tables allow large amounts of text and/or numbers to be presented in an organized and easy-to-read fashion. Student roll books, sport statistics, address books, math formulas, menus, and many other documents often incorporate tables to share information.
Similar to columns, tables can be challenging at first. Word has created an entire menu to help assist you in creating your first table.
Here are a few important terms to know before you begin creating tables:
• Row: A row runs horizontal in a table and is divided by borders.
• Borders: This separates lines in the table.
• Column: A column runs perpendicular in a table and is divided by borders.
• Cell: A cell is the box that is created when your rows and columns intersect. The cell contains your data or information.
Formula –
Inserting Formulas
To insert a formula, determine the values or cell references required for the formula and then follow these instructions:
1. Place your insertion point in the cell where you want to place the formula
2. From the Table menu, select Formula...
The Formula dialog box appears.
HINT: Similar to Excel, based on the numbers in the table and the location of the cell in which you want to place the formula, Word will guess what type of formula you may want (e.g., to add all cells to the left of the formula, =SUM (LEFT) may be placed in the Formula text box).
3. In the Formula text box, type the desired formula
4. If necessary, from the Number format pull-down list, select the desired format for the result
5. Click OK
The formula is inserted.
Hide Gridlines –
The subject of table gridlines comes up most often in relation to résumés. The résumé templates that ship with Word are constructed using tables, and users who are emailing their résumés to prospective employers as attachments want to assure that they appear professional when opened.
Table Properties –
When you first create your table, it is aligned with the left margin of the page. If this is not the desired placement of the table, you can adjust the placement using the Table Properties dialog box. The table can be positioned at the left or right margin, centered between the margins, or set at a specific position from the left margin. You can change the position of your table using either the Table menu or the toolbar.
Changing Table Position: Menu Option
1. Place your insertion point within the table you want to change the position to
2. From the Table menu, select Table Properties...
3. Select the Table tab
4. Under Alignment, select the desired alignment
5. If necessary, under Text wrapping, select a text wrap option
6. Click OK
Changing Table Position: Toolbar Option
1. Place your insertion point within the table you want to change the position to
2. From the Table menu, select Select » Table
3. Windows: From the Formatting toolbar, click ALIGN LEFT, CENTER or ALIGN RIGHT until the table is positioned where you want it
