Follow these basic rules
• Consistent design. Make sure that headings, text, background and bullets conform to style, reflect your brand and are easy to read.
• Ensure there are no spelling and grammatical errors. Have a colleague check it.
• Prioritise information on the slide. Use bullet points and not a script.
• Avoid too much animation, use consistent information transitions, they don’t need to be accompanied by sound.
The most positive impact of effective power point design comes from bedding relevant images, graphs, charts, audio and video clips into your presentation.
This enables the audience to access the information in a different way and brings the words to life, using a more engaging approach.
Make sure you are clear on copyright rules for the images and clips you use.
Always have your presentation on a memory stick as well as paper based, in case of issues with the technology.
And my final top tip is never have an image of an apple and write apple underneath. So many category Managers do this with their graphs. Use the headline to add real value.
