Hi, I'm Ron Hazelton. You know, for most of my life, I've been involved with Do It Yourself Home Improvement as the home improvement editor for Good Morning America, the host of a number of History Channel shows and of course, my own series, Ron Hazelton's House calls.
The simple truth is I love tools and especially power tools and I'm very proud of this one, which I invented. It's a tool that will cut a material like this, but it won't cut skin. The table saw is part of a building system called i Build 2, instead of rotating this blade oscillates back and forth. The system was designed to work with this unique polyurethane made from vegetable oil. It's called Innocore. Virtually any cutting operation that can be performed with wood can be done using Innocore. Because the blade is oscillating rather than rotating, plunge cuts can be made safely and material can be cut forward or backward. For curves, a scroll saw fitted with a toothless blade allows intricate shapes to be cut. Again, without the risk of cutting skin. The vegetable based polyurethane can be bored using something as simple and safe as the slotted wooden dowel. The material can be shaped and smoothed with a rasp, surform plane, standard plane and sandpaper, it can even be cut with a utility knife.
Parts made for Innocore can be assembled using ring shank nails, finished nails and hand or power driven screws. For extra gripping power threaded inserts and plastic anchors can be used. Polyurethane glues are highly compatible with this material and produce a bond that's stronger than the material itself. Innocore can be bonded or laminated to a number of different materials using a variety of adhesives, wood veneer, using contact cement, fiberglass cloth using epoxy resin, foam fabric and foils using spray adhesive. The vegetable based polyurethane can be coated with aerosol spray enamel or lacquer, acrylic latex paint and wallboard joint compound, among other things.
Inoncore polyurethane does not absorb water and along with polyurethane glues and silicone sealants can be used to fashion water holding objects. With the i Build 2 system, crafter's can cut both rectilinear and curved shapes, boreholes, plane, sand, nail, screw and glue or wood like material into hundreds of craft projects. They can use a variety of adhesives and coatings, laminate a wide range of materials and most importantly, do it all safely.
