In this lecture, Dr. Dimitri Peroulis, takes you through the first steps in the synthesis approach of designing capacitive gap filters. Learn about the general layout of the filter including its transmission lines that act as resonators and how to calculate the length of each transmission line. Dr. Peroulis illustrates the vital role of the transmission line section as a resonator at certain frequencies, details the choice of resonant frequency, and the type of resonators that will be used. The lecture culminates in Dr. Peroulis discussing the goal of the synthesis process - to find the values of the coupling sections in order to realize the desired filter and how to convert resonator susceptance into physical realization.
