Here is a modern and classic version of the Wooly Bugger, arguably one of the most popular and successful fly patterns out there. Created by Russell Blessing back in 1967. I thought it would be fun to compare how they were originally tied to a more modern version with all the bells and whistles. This one’s a bit over the top and leans much more toward a Crystal Bugger (Use of Estaz instead of chenille), but using the technique of wrapping the hackle backward and counter-wrapping with wire is a common practice in modern Wooly Buggers, even in more traditional ones, to increase durability. Anyway, I thought this would be a fun comparison. Let me know in the comments which one you’re fishing!
