WorkSafe Awards 2011 Finalist: Gecko Surfacing Solutions
Gecko is a major supplier of synthetic grass cricket pitch covers. The manual handling required to remove the pitch cover was backbreaking and time consuming. The solution they developed is a system to apply and remove the pitch cover using tractor hydraulics instead of manual handling. The Gecko Applicator allows a complete pitch to be laid and re-covered by one person in just minutes, eliminating risk and any need of front end loaders or bobcats. Gecko worked closely with Glen Eira City Council on this initiative and the system is now used on 22 of the council sites and is suitable for all sporting grounds with concrete wickets.
