The Range Rover - It's an understatement to suggest that electric EVs and hybrids are becoming more widespread around the world. The future is looking electric, with firms like Volvo, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi already establishing deadlines to make the conversion to zero emissions.
Furthermore, although most of the previously named brands aim to make the conversion in 2030 or later, Jaguar Land Rover plans to do it as early as the middle of the decade. Jaguar declared earlier this year that starting in 2025, it will only produce electric vehicles. With that in mind, it looks that Land Rover has joined the party, announcing that the Range Rover will be available in an electric version. That's correct. Land Rover announced last October that an all-electric Range Rover would be added to its lineup in 2024.
According to Chris Ward, president of Coventry Motors Corporation, the country's official Land Rover distributor, "Another exciting development for Range Rover, a vehicle that represents ultimate luxury and class, as it advances into the future as a luxury EV by 2024. We will be able to share more information about this astonishing vehicle in the next coming days."
The news came as the company unveiled the 2022 Range Rover, a redesigned fifth-generation luxury SUV that is loaded with technology has an electrical architecture that supports over-the-air software updates, and sits on a new flexible architecture that will be the foundation of the brand's future models, including plug-in hybrid and electric variants.
Here, The Range Rover EV could be powered by electric motors taken from the Jaguar I-Pace when it debuts in 2024. For comparison, the electric crossover now produces 400 horsepower and 696 pound-feet of torque. With that in mind, the Range Rover version, as a bigger vehicle with a higher price tag, may be able to produce greater power. It might really make its premiere in 2023, as Land Rover simply states the EV will "join the lineup" in 2024, implying that it will go on sale then.
It's only fitting that a vehicle with the word "range" in its name makes the switch to all-electric power. The new Land Rover Range Rover has been unveiled, and maybe the most important lesson is that the fifth generation of the SUV will include a fully electric option. This vehicle, which will debut in 2024, will be one of the most substantial alterations to the legendary SUV in the last half-century. Land Rover hasn't revealed any technical details about the Range Rover EV, which is part of the company's Reimagine plan, but a new plug-in hybrid model due in 2023 will serve as a sort of transition vehicle.
