Everytime I get back into the swing of recording and posting covers, I always optimistically aim to post at least one cover per month, but usually in practice I am not able to keep that up. The music accountability group I'm part of helps me to at least work on stuff regularly to make progress, but I've never considered myself to be particularly good with stress management and I also don't particularly enjoy mixing (which is the bulk of the cover production process). I've been dealing with various things in my personal life these past few months and then these last few weeks I've spent most of my time researching and reaching out to potential therapists after my current therapist let me know he would be leaving the center where I go for therapy. I had been putting in some overtime for work too, so I have felt rather in over my head, but I'm hoping this fall things will calm down more. However, I'm thinking this time I'll actually commit to taking Mandarin beginner classes at my local community college, so that might also mean working on covers will be deprioritized - as it is, I already made some difficult decisions to not join my a capella group for their most recent project because I'm trying to be better about leaving myself more free time. It's been a longtime struggle for me to balance between my love of music and wanting to make something together with other people, vs. feeling a lot of dread and little motivation to practice on my own and often feeling like I don't have enough time for everything I'm interested in doing.
I feel like this mix could've been a lot better, I know there are some parts where the vocals aren't timed well to the instrumental and I think it would've sounded cooler if I had felt confident trying to apply more techno-sounding effects. Still, I hope you enjoy this cover! This was a song I first learned about through Raw Squid Foam's TTB entry many years ago, and I take the lyrics in a more humorous way since I've had chronic insomnia since I was little. I wanted to try actually using falsetto more in a cover, since I've historically avoided doing so since I didn't like how I sounded (and used to have more gender dysphoria about my voice).
