CRINGE - The Sun
This song has sections that flow in & out....like breathing. When writing these drum parts I was visualizing the fluidity of the ocean, with its waves rolling and crashing on the rocks.
There's a "push and pull" in the verses caused by the swooshing and closing of the hi-hats. I used 15's, but would love to hear/feel it with 16's.
When the chorus comes in, I use the 14" floor tom on the left in a simple/subtle way in tandem with the right hand moving up with the crashes. This is the part I imagine huge choppy waves colliding with rocks.
The middle section has a lead in drum fill I call "The Wedge". This keeps within the theme of The Sun, the Sea.....because the The Wedge in Newport Beach, CA has massive crashing waves that slap together. I just felt the vibe of the ocean's movement throughout this entire song.
