Feeling misunderstood is something every introvert, including myself, has experienced, especially when we need time and space to process emotions during stressful times. Why introverts feel misunderstood often comes down to how others interpret our need for time alone. People often assume that when we withdraw or go silent, we’re being distant, but the truth is, we process things differently and solitude is how we regain peace and calm, allowing us to work through our feelings.
Why introverts feel misunderstood also stems from the fact that we thrive in calm, reflective spaces, and yet we live in a world that celebrates extroversion and constant social interaction. Communicating our need for alone time to friends, family, or coworkers can be difficult. Often, we’re met with confusion or frustration because they don’t understand why introverts feel misunderstood in situations that require connection.
Throughout my personal journey, I’ve encountered this challenge many times, especially with loved ones who couldn’t understand my need for space when overwhelmed. Over time, I’ve learned how to set boundaries, better communicate my needs, and find a balance between solitude and meaningful relationships.
