ILO Policy Dialogue on Bridging the Skills Gap
The ILO is executing the "Leaving No One Behind: Improving Skills and Economic Opportunities for the Women and Youth in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh" initiative, funded by Global Affairs Canada. As part of this initiative, a two-faceted assessment has been conducted that includes industry skills demand anticipation and skills supply side assessment. The study aims to undertake a regional skills supply, demand and needs assessment in the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar region, focusing on five priority economic sectors, i.e. constructions; tourism and hospitality; transport; manufacturing; and agro-food processing.
The Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram Economic Corridor has significant potential for employment creation with many Government mega-projects underway and an increase in private investments in high-potential sectors. However, lack of an adequately skilled workforce undermines its economic potential, a new study finds.
