Field Recording: Jack & June
Our Rootspring team had the best time working with Jack & June on this field recording at Kalk Bay Harbour.
Everything fell into place so beautifully!
The boat we used for the recording belongs to the famous “Kalky's”, the rustic but thriving Fish & Chip restaurant situated just 50 meters away from where we shot.
"Jack and June" are husband and wife duo Jacqueline Tolken and Peter Hoven, and it only takes a few seconds of hearing them play to know that these guys have music in their bones.
Both tracks in the recording are originals.
The first song in the video is titled "Light Your Way" and is a co-composition by the couple.
The second is titled "You Win" & composed by Jacqueline. This had only just been written a few days before, and Peter was still trying to memorise the words as we were climbing onto the boat and setting up our gear... yet they pulled it off like they have been playing it for years!
With musicianship like this, we couldn't believe we hadn't heard of these guys before! But we have now.
We hope folks get as much enjoyment watching it as we did making it.
