Japan is waking up for the first time since World War two. As North Korea has in recent years substantially stepped up its ICBM and nuclear testing. China is also flexing its military muscle by violating Japanese territorial claims and threatening the invasion of Taiwan. In just the past two years Japan has seen an increase in defense spending. Formed defense relations with multiple democratic countries and started fortifying its Ryuku island chain.
