I know, I know, the song is rather "feminine" and "High School-ish", I get that. But to me, the song's lyrics perfectly encapsulates "graduation" with all the hope, optimism and emotions both high school and University graduates possess.
"On each of their backs sprouts the wings of their dreams!" With lyrics like that, how could a song about graduation and "saying goodbye to the school" not make us PROUD parents cry??!!!
We were all there, and remember the emotions around graduations and reflecting on the past, and stepping out into the unknown future!
Sakura season in Japan is a deeply emotional time for the Japanese people, and uniquely Japanese. Sakura is far more important to the Japanese than just "pretty flowering trees". It's a time to reflect on your past, and a time of graduations and employment advancements. There are many sakura-related festivals in Japan during that time.
I was very sad to not find a good, reliable English and Romaji translation to this song, so I took it upon myself to get it done. Please enjoy!
"Sakura no Hanabiratachi" (桜の花びらたち) or in English, "Cherry Blossom Petals" was Japanese Idol Group AKB48's very first debut single on February 1, 2006.
Written by Yasushi Akimoto, and composed by Hiroshi Uesugi, the song was performed originally in 2006 by the original 21 members of AKB48, known as Team A.
Many versions of this song have been performed live by subsequent members of AKB48, and the 2008 version here features Team K and Team B members, in addition to Team A.
I am sorry I couldn't find a higher quality recording to subtitle, but I looked and looked. This one was from a Thai and Russian video website.
