I have long been attracted to the sakura season in Japan; It might be because my birth month is in April and because the cherry blossoms bloom late in my home state of Minnesota - signaling the end of the long and cold winter.
I have admired and enjoyed halyosy's "Sakura no Ame" since 2014, when I first "discovered" Hatsune Miku. In my mind, halyosy's soft and gentle melody blends with the peaceful pink sakura blossom colors. I return to this song many times in the springtime. Sakura season signals a time of graduations, advancements, and the "turning of the years" in the minds of Japanese. Feelings of "setsunai" permeate Japan during sakura season. Hanami flower parties under the gentle sakura flowers bring together friends and family each year. It is a wonderful time in Japan.
I was unaware until only recently that halyosy's "Sakura no Ame" melody had been adapted into a live-acted, 2015 Japanese youth drama music film. "Sakura no Omoide" ("Cherry Blossom Memories") was produced by Nippon TV, and directed by Ueda Atsushi, and written by Kobayashi Hirotoshi. The movie stars Yamamoto Maika, who portrays Hatsune Miku in the movie as a 2nd year High School introverted student who struggles to sing in her school's chorus club, which is located in a small coastal Japanese town. However, she falls for Haru-kun, the head of the chorus club. She then sings with power and energy.

"Sakura no Ame" always makes me tear up. Perhaps its the inner "setsunai" feelings I also feel when I feel the Springtime suns' warmth on my face, and see the beautiful cherry blossoms flutter in the wind. It's another year passed, and a brighter future ahead for all of us!
