The Niterói City Hall is constructing a gabion wall within the recreational area of Camboinhas Beach. This construction will alter the coastal landscape along 270 meters of shoreline, causing a significant visual impact without considering alternatives, and most importantly, with probable negative impacts resulting from this intervention. In this live presentation, the Physical Geography Laboratory of UFF (Federal Fluminense University), based on data obtained directly from the construction site, will discuss alternatives that could mitigate the impacts of storm waves, using concepts of Nature-Based Solutions, which represent the current frontier of knowledge for integrated coastal management. Don't miss the opportunity to become aware of the unsustainable decision-making of your city's current administrators. Hear opinions from experienced researchers in coastal studies, who offer a different perspective on the rigid interventions proposed by the Niterói City Hall, and who produce efficient and low-cost results for mitigating and preserving urban infrastructure in the face of storm surge events.
