5 Biggest Challenges of Switching to Single Speed
Single speed mountain biking is amazing. The lack of clicking through gears, lack of finicky shifting, less maintenance, lighter weight, and people thinking you are tougher than you actually are is great. There are lots of downsides to single speed mountain biking however. When mountain bikers have asked me about going single speed, there is often a lot of hesitation in their voice. They aren't sure they are ready to commit and don't feel like most single speeders give them the pros and cons of single speed. Most just talk about how cool it is and seem to make it out to be a thing to be avoided by anyone weaker than them. Although it can be challenging, mountain biking in general is challenging. Single speed has it's downsides for sure, so let's get into my top five challenges of switching to single speed.
