Carrickfergus
This is #14 in my Home Office Concert series, and a request from my cousins in Oz.
I first heard this song after a gig at an Irish bar in Port Melbourne, sometime in the 80s. I was sitting around enjoying a few post gig Guinness with the bar staff (I might have been playing a tune or two) when one of the company broke into an a capella version of it. I'd never heard anything so hauntingly beautiful, obviously the Guinness helped. Not long later, I heard the Van Morrison version with the Chieftains, but the rendition performed by that beautiful 'colleen' at Molly Blooms will always be the finest to my mind.
