The FDA is not properly implementing the law, and it's causing needless and excessive torment of beagles, primates, and other animals in new drug approvals.
Remember, Congress passed the FDA Modernization Act 2.0 in December 2022 to eliminate an animal-testing mandate for drug screening that had been in place since the Depression Era.
Now, more than a year after the law was enacted, the FDA has not updated archaic regulations that require testing on animals. Those regulations conflict with the plain language of the law.
A group of bi-partisan members of Congress is leading an effort to tell the FDA to do its job. That includes organizing its internal operations to be ready to qualify non-animal-testing methods and putting them to work in the real world.
