3D Robot on iPad - Nomad Sculpt model presentation
More like a glimpse/teaser rather than a tutorial. This should show You how much work you can do on your iPad, just comfortably laying on your coach ;).
3d is getting more and more needed in concept art jobs. A lot of concept artists use that on a daily basis because you can experiment with 3d form, camera lighting and many more! So why not use it in your personal projects? hobby? ipad is treated more like a hobbystic tool, but maybe we can push it a little bit further ;}?
What you can see in the video?
1. Rough idea sketch in Procreate, first I started with general shape, then base color scheme and a little bit of details.
2. After that I moved to the Nomad Sculpt app. And once again I started with a very rough sculpt. Simple and basic forms, tubes, blocks, spheres etc. Next I added some details, paneling cuts with deep and tiny clay tubes brush, and some technically looking stamps.
3. In the end I created a new layer in nomad sculpt and vertex paint the whole model, very roughly but it was enough to sell the idea. And I couldn’t refuse using post process effects inside nomad sculpt, those are really good!
4. Final touch was blender render - it wasn't necessary but I was curious what happens when you open a nomad model inside blender and it works. because of the heavy mesh (dense sculpt) it was a little bit laggy but that was enough to render a few shots in cycles ;}!
Sadly nomad sculpt doesn't have a screen recording function as Procreate, I didn’t expect that I would create something that it would be good enough to share. Next time I will try to record the whole process ;)
Update:
Recently I was checking out the baking function in Nomad Sculpt. I was able to reduce the verts count from over 5mln to around 11k only using built-in tools and functions of nomad sculpt. Whole process was pretty easy. Thanks to that you can view model in Sketchfab:
